Peer Support – Nutrition Worker

Camponi Housing Corporation / Sasknative Rentals Inc. have employment opportunities at our Edwards Manor Supportive Housing Program Building in Saskatoon for 1 full time and 1 part time permanent positions for Peer/Cultural Support staff.

Edwards Manor is a 24-suite apartment building in which we run a supported housing program giving priority to Indigenous Housing First Program participants who have been unsuccessful in stabilizing their housing in the regular housing rental market due to poorly managed mental health and active addictions. Edwards Manor has an onsite Community Room and office space, and will have Social Workers and Aboriginal Peer/Cultural Support staff on site 24/7 to provide support services to clients in the building. Housing First Case Managers are also onsite working with their clients in the building.

Position Summary:

  • Plan and carry out the meal program in following the Canada Food Guide and meeting the nutritional needs of clients – minimum of 1 meal per day, 7 days a week
  • Prepare and serve the healthy and nutritious meals in following the Meal Program
  • Food Pick up
  • Prepare and facilitate client cooking groups
  • Keep all kitchen work and eating areas and equipment clean and sanitized
  • Conduct regular inventory of kitchen equipment and ensure equipment is in good working order
  • Conduct regular inventory of stock and replenish as required
  • Follow food safety standards to ensure that food is prepared, stored and served in a safe manner
  • Attend in services and training sessions as required
  • Use your knowledge and experience of Aboriginal history, cultural practices and views to supporting others in learning more about their own cultural practices and views
  • Provide and foster a culturally safe and belonging space for tenants to engage with staff and one another
  • Act as role model and mentor to residents
  • Engage tenants in social, cultural and community activities and opportunities
  • Appropriately respond to behaviors that put the tenants, or others in the building at risk
  • Update the communication log daily/ at the end of each shift
  • Enforce building rules and policies
  • Any other duties that may be assigned

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience
  • Work experience in related field
  • Certified in Saskatchewan Safe Food Handling course or willingness to obtain accreditation
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness to work independently and as part of a team and engage with hard to house clients with mental illness and active addictions
  • First Aid and CPR or wiliness to obtain
  • Possess a valid driver license and private vehicle

Successful candidate shall be subject to a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employment.

Employment Type:

Full time and part time available.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting wage is $19.00/hour

Social Worker

Edwards Manor is a 24-suite apartment building in which we run a supported housing program giving priority to Indigenous Housing First Program participants who have been unsuccessful in stabilizing their housing in the regular housing rental market due to poorly managed mental health and active addictions. Edwards Manor has an onsite Community Room and office space, and will have Social Workers and Aboriginal Peer/Cultural Support staff on site 24/7 to provide support services to clients in the building. Position Summary:

The goals of Camponi Housing Corporation Social Workers include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize knowledge and understanding of Indigenous history, crisis practices/strategies, cultural practices and views to support clients in learning more about their own cultural practices and views
  • Provide clients with intensive residential support and counselling services that assist in the stabilization and maintenance of housing
  • Provide clients with ongoing individualized support and counselling services that promotes the development and growth of their self-esteem, independence and self-sufficiency
  • To empower our clients and improve their quality of life
  • Participate in the development of individualized client plans and establish/ coordinate support services with outside agencies
  • Committed to delivering high quality service to all of our clients
  • Understand and practice of harm reduction strategies
  • Knowledge of community resources

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work – BSW / BISW
  • Two years of experience working in related field
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness to work independently and as part of a team and engage with hard to house clients with mental illness and active addictions
  • First Aid and CPR or wiliness to obtain
